When it comes to dinner, sometimes you just need to treat yourself. My friend and I decided to try out The Balcon, the restaurant in the 5* Sofitel St James Hotel, located just a few minutes walk from Charing Cross station.
The restaurant was incredibly welcoming, with very conscientious staff. We were seated at a lovely corner table on a comfy curved sofa, which gave us a great view of the restaurant.
The menu is pretty extensive, but they had a couple of cheaper set menu options – £25 for 3 courses and coffee, or £28 for 3 courses, wine and coffee. We went for the wine. They also have a De-Light menu which has lighter, healthier options on. Well, we did look…
So, the important part. The food.
I started off with the Gin marinated organic salmon, with vegetables à la Grecque. It came served in a really cute glass jar and the salmon was amazing.
My friend Kirsty had the Homemade foie gras terrine on toasted country bread, which looked incredible.
I followed my starter with a brown trout fillet with vegetables, which was cooked to perfection, it was so good. Plus it came with courgettes which made me happy.
Kirsty had the pork with spicy chickpeas and kale which in her words, was amazing. You really couldn’t go wrong with this menu. Especially when it was combined with glasses of a tasty Merlot.
The dessert menu was pretty impressive, but I struggle to look elsewhere when there is a crème brûlée on the menu, and The Balcon’s offer of an English breakfast tea crème brûlée and lemon madeleine was completely irresistible to me, although I did have a little food envy when Kirsty’s Vanilla ice cream profiteroles with hot chocolate sauce arrived…
The Balcon is a beautiful restaurant with gorgeous decor, it has a lovely bar set apart from the restaurant and the hotel has a very fancy looking spa which I would love to be able to afford to visit! The staff were lovely and the whole experience was perfect – I’d definitely recommend it!
